OK… I have to admit it. I don’t get this at all.

I have read Book of Death Fall of Harbinger #1 three times now. The first time I was totally confused and put that down to lack of knowledge of the Valiant universe. Second time I thought that maybe it was intellectually beyond me and, therefore I should battle on and educate myself. Third time and I  decided that I have better things to do than try to understand Book of Death Fall of Harbinger #1.

I believe Book of Death Fall of Harbinger #1 chronicles the end of Valiant’s Harbinger universe and I guess if you have been a keen follower of Harbinger then this will be a ‘must-read’ but otherwise it provides a poor reward for the casual reader.

The plot line by Joshua Dysart is totally unfathomable for the newcomer and the appearance of a character called ‘The Bleeding Monk’ can only be hilarious to a British reader. Curtis Mayfield and Isaac Hayes also appear so I can only assume that we can look forward to a ‘Sam and Dave’ one shot special sometime in the future.

The artwork doesn’t save Book of Death Fall of Harbinger #1 either. It looks rushed and at times amateurish.

There you go… you win some, you lose some. I hope my next reviewing assignment is more rewarding than Book of Death Fall of Harbinger #1.
