Colder Toss The Bones #2 Dark Horse Comics

As horror comics go, Colder: Toss the Bones #2 is a cut and a slash of the wrists above the rest.

I found myself dragged kicking and screaming into a warped and nightmarish world; normally this is the stuff of way too much cheese before bed but that is not the case in Colder: Toss The Bones #2. The demonic character of Nimble Jack slides through the narrative like an unwelcome guest at a party creating havoc and mayhem for Declan and Reece who are vainly trying to get on with their lives.

In Colder: Toss the Bones #2 Nimble Jack has the ability to extract madness from his victims and uses this psychic force to send people into the terrifying Hungry World. He is the very embodiment of the shadowy creature that lurks at the edges of our imagination.

The artwork by Juan Ferreyra in Colder: Toss the Bones #2 is incredible and amongst the very best I have seen in this genre. It breaks the normal straightforward pen and ink model and introduces beautiful cinematic washes of colour. The depiction of Nimble Jack is easily one of the most haunting characterisations I have ever seen in a comic book.

Paul Tobin’s writing for Colder: Toss the Bones #2 intrigues me as the narrative flip-flops the action between Boston and the Hungry World. I find myself wanting to know more about these worrying characters who inhabit the edge of reason.

It is against my better judgement but I know I am going to have to enter further into the deeply disturbing world of Colder: Toss the Bones #2. And if I have to, you will too.
