Wow! What a start to the Christmas season Big Man Plans is! Instead of picking up something uplifting, cheery and embracing the spirit of man’s humanity to fellow man I read this…

Big Man Plans is violent and depraved and despairs over the human condition and presents us with a character devoid of any feelings for humanity or any sense of compassion. No cheery Santa, tinsel bedecked trees or chestnuts roasting by the fire here.

Eric Powell, Eisner Award Winning creator of The Goon, has teamed up with Tim Wiesch to create a monumental revenge story that may just prove, in time to be a landmark piece of comic book writing. This Big Man Plans trade volume pulls together the complete story arc published last year by Image Comics. And what a compelling read it is too.

The lead character in Big Man Plans has been bullied, victimised and belittled his entire life and is out for revenge. He does this in the most graphic way possible, pursuing his victims with inhuman cruelty, violence and torture. Thing is, you can’t help get the feeling his victims deserve it. A moral twist for the reader to come to terms with.

Eric Powell and Tim Wiesch Big Man Plans gripped me from the very start and I found myself unable to stop reading despite some of the more disturbing scenes.

Big Man Plans is intense, has a magnetic and moral/immoral appeal and beats hollow most of the brutal crime dramas I have read in the past. The artwork by Tim Wiesch is superb and doesn’t hold back in its illustration of one man’s journey through violence and out the other side.

Read Big Man Plans with a mince pie and a glass of sherry. I dare you…Yo, ho, ho………
