In Deadpool #3 the merc is putting his money where his mouth is. Deadpool’s mercenary business is booming, literally, and Wade Wilson is now an Avenger, much to everyone’s irritation. Wilson is eschewing killing, financing the Avengers and hired six C-list characters to dress up like him for missions: Foolkiller, Madcap, Slapstick, Solo, Stingray and Terror.

But things Deadpool #3 aren’t going well. Wade’s payroll checks to the imitation Deadpools bounce, and someone’s trying to kill him. Has Deadpool lost his edge along with the voices in his head? Looking over his shoulder is Steve Rogers who is trying to keep Wade’s new “Heroes for Money” from imploding.

The artwork in Deadpool #3 by Mike Hawthorne and Terry Pallot do the character justice, and faces throughout are expressive and strong. And writer Gerry Duggan seems to have a welcome desire to extend Deadpool beyond the two dimensional characteristics usually associated with the eccentric killing machine.

Deadpool fans will have to decide for themselves whether they prefer stories concentrating on the anti-hero with an attitude or on his partners with attitudes all of their own. Personally, it’s a fun ride, either way.
