Squadron Supreme #2 Marvel Comics
Squadron Supreme #2 Marvel Comics

Squadron Supreme #2 continues to explore the consequences of superheroes that act with extreme prejudice. After killing Prince Namor the Sub-Mariner the DC Justice League-like group the Squadron has appropriated Atlantian technology and hides under the ocean.

In Squadron Supreme #2 Nighthawk tracks some unusual oil shipments, leading him to an unlikely conspiracy involving the Kree, Skrull and Badoon. Meanwhile, Nighthawk’s teammates are marooned are Earth seeking the true meaning of their lives. In a scene reminiscent of the classic Denny O’Neill/Neal Adams Green Lantern Bronze Age series, it appears Hyperion has gone on walk-about to look for America (possibly via the New Jersey Turnpike). Likewise, Squadron Supreme members Blur, Doctor Spectrum and Power Princess have pressing personal issues to address too.

As Nighthawk expected, he’s been tracked down by Steve Rogers, the original Human Torch and some assorted Avengers. “No moves, mister,” says Captain America, totally in character. The next issues promises not the Squadron Supreme versus the Uncanny Avengers, but Deadpool scripted by James Robinson. Yes!

The interior artwork of Squadron Supreme #2, by Leonard Kirk, Paul Neary and colourist Frank Martin continues to complement the writing and pleases the eye. My only complaint: Why isn’t the next issue out yet???
