In All-New X-Men #4 the question is, what’s wrong with Wolverine?  Her boyfriend Angel is worried and doesn’t have the answer. After a rocky start the new team, including Beast, Cyclops, Iceman, Idie Okonkwo, Kid Apocalypse and Pickles find their groove as globe-trotters, saving the day. The Japanese love ’em and Cyclops has to keep on top of the autograph hunters 24/7.

But being X-Men, there’s an internal problem in the team dynamics. Wolverine Laura is too quick to throw herself into danger and pain, and Angel is worried she’s becoming too reckless. Unfortunately, every time they try to discuss it a bad guy pops up. And when the Blob appears and Wolverine attacks him without backup she finds herself in a deadly predicament. Roll credits.

For All-New X-Men #4, writer Dennis Hopeless does an admirable job moving the story forward and giving the characters good, believable dialogue. Perhaps more than ever X-Men is about relationships but that doesn’t mean there’s no action or fighting. Mark Bagley and Andrew Hennessy’s art hit the right tones in drafting and layout, so the book looks great.

X-Men fans should find plenty of entertainment in All-New X-Men #4, and newcomers will enjoy jumping right into an accessible mix. The X-Men may barely be visible on Marvel’s radar right now, but that doesn’t mean X-books are sacrificing quality or just marking time. All-New X-Men #4 is a good example of why we love the Marvelous mutants. And long may we do so.

Excelsior!
