Sometimes a comic book-based TV show appears that is surprisingly entertaining and smart but gets little attention compared to blockbusters like The Walking Dead. IZombie is one such program, Lucifer Season 1 Episode 11 St. Lucifer represents another. Well-produced, written and acted, part supernatural detective mystery, part screwball comedy, it’s Hellraiser meets Kojak meets My Girl Friday.

The story revolves around the eponymous Lucifer Morningstar, a self-centered, hedonistic asshole, played with smarmy goodness by Tom Ellis (“The devil does indeed wear Prada,” he says). Can a man be too charming? His one-liners fly fast and loose. “I love LA,” Lucifer says. “Even the homeless have an IMDB page.”

However, in Lucifer Season 1 Episode 11, St. Lucifer, abandoning his responsibility as Hell’s emperor Lucifer opens up a trendy LA nightclub but soon finds a new passion in foil Detective Chloe Decker (Lauren German), former child actor/model turned bad-ass cop, who discovers Lucifer is the only person to whom she shows vulnerability, and vice-versa. He calls Chloe, “The first person to give the devil blue balls.”

Although such a formula appears trite and not serious (where the walking dead, is?) Lucifer Season 1 Episode 11 St. Lucifer raises above said formula; no nix that, soars above.

Lucifer Season 1 Episode 11, St. Lucifer revolves around a standard whodunit (the murder of a charitable organization’s head) Lucifer naturally confuses honest selflessness with performing good deeds for reward. “Goodness isn’t a toy,” says Lucifer’s therapist Linda Martin (the wonderful Rachel Harris). “The way I’m going to play with it, it is,” he responds. That’s right, Lucifer has a therapist. If it’s good enough for Tony Soprano, etc….

There’s also a sub-plot involving angel Amanadiel (DB Woodside), whom heaven tasked with returning the fallen angel to Perdition.

And speaking of Kojak, Lucifer Season 1 Episode 11 St. Lucifer is a Tootsie Pop. After licking the delicious covering we’re left with a centre of drama, containing honest emotions and psychology.

And Lucifer Season 1 Episode 11, St. Lucifer begs two questions: Why aren’t Fox superhero movies as good? And why isn’t DC’s current Lucifer comic book as much fun?

Do yourself a favor and binge watch Lucifer from the beginning. Currently on Amazon Prime Video and Fox.

It’s a glorious, glorious sin.
