Many people would know Deja Thoris as the girlfriend of John Carter, the civil war soldier sent to Mars. In this awesome new volume from Dynamite, Thoris and the city of Helium will be rocked by shocking new developments.

Dejah Thoris #4 follows on from Barbiere’s well-crafted story, Dejah Thoris realises her father is missing. Her journey to uncover the mystery sends her deep into Mars.

In Dejah Thoris #4,  Dejah is captured along with her platoon, who are either killed or enslaved alongside her. Meanwhile, Councilman Voris, as the sole heir to the throne of Helium, makes his move to rule the city as he sees fit. Will he get the revolution he wants? Meanwhile, back in the badlands, Dejah is made as a mining slave. Does she have what it takes to deal with the Cult of Issus who are ruling the mines and controlling the slaves? Dejah Thoris needs to learn how to become a leader and escape before she too becomes a slave forever.

Barbiere weaves a unique tale in Dejah Thoris #4, filled with political intrigue and action. In all honesty, Dejah Thoris #4 feels like it’s The Temple of Doom, but with aliens and in comic book form. Manna’s art brings it all to life in a bright, colourful way. I only just started reading the John Carter material and even after the disaster of a movie, Dynamite have turned the John Carter world back in an action-packed adventure, which also makes Dejah Thoris #4 something great for newcomers to sink their teeth into. And enjoy!
