Lobster Johnson Metal Monsters Of Midtown #1 of 3 Dark Horse Comics

And the prize for the coolest comic book title of the month goes to: Lobster Johnson: Metal Monsters Of Midtown #1 of 3! I mean, with a title like that how could you go wrong?

As Lobster Johnson: Metal Monsters Of Midtown is a product of the ever fertile imagination of “magic” Mike Mignola you just know you are in for a treat. Like every character in the Hellboy universe, Lobster Johnson has a detailed back story that will make your head spin.

Not that you need to know any of that in order to enjoy Lobster Johnson: Metal Monsters Of Midtown.  All you need to know is that it is 1936 and intrepid radio reporter Cindy Tynan is reporting live as giant robots go on a bank robbing spree. However, the robots leave all the money behind! And just who is that emerging from the shadowy rooftops to save the day? Why it’s The Lobster! With his loyal band of followers. The Lobster pits brain and brawn against the metal monstrosities.  In case you were wondering, yes, a superhero can be called The Lobster and still be taken seriously especially when he owes more than a passing nod to that other 1930’s crime buster, The Shadow.

Although the era and the methodology may be similar, The Lobster is very much his own man and this is a classic blend of pulp fiction mystery man and comic book superheroics.  Pitted against an inscrutable and seemingly all-powerful opponent The Lobster will go down guns blazing and you will be sorry if you miss a single panel.

Lobster Johnson: Metal Monsters Of Midtown #1 of 3 is another winner for Dark Horse who are rapidly becoming the new millennium’s premiere comic book publisher bar none.
