Weighing in at a whopping 308 pages Crimson Vol. 2 HC collects issues 13 – 24 of the original series by Brian Augustyn (Batman: Gotham by Gaslight) and Humberto Ramos (Amazing Spider-Man).

The equivalent of a box set Crimson Vol. 2 is just perfect for binge reading. If you haven’t read Vol. 1 you might ask yourself what are we doing following Azhael, the Demon of Lust as he goes around flirting with married women. However, that’s just for starters as soon everything is tipped headlong into a full-scale Holy War with Angels on one side and a plus-plus-size Elvis, lookalike doing the bidding of the evil Dragon Knights, on the other.

Does Crimson Vol. 2 sound crazy enough for you? And all that is before we meet up with Alex Elder, the designated Chosen One and, by the way, a vampire! Under the guidance of the angel Zophiel, Alex has to embrace his destiny and save both Heaven and the mortal world. How he does it is a roller-coaster ride of angel lore, monsters, mayhem and magic. Messrs. Augustyn and Ramos must have had a ball creating the crazy world of Crimson and that enjoyment explodes from every impeccably rendered panel.

If you can bear to wait until you’ve tracked down a copy of Vol. 1, read Crimson Vol. 2  both back to back and bliss out on one of the most evocative, multi-layered and fascinating comic book on the market today. Or, buy Crimson Vol. 2 right now and dive right in, you won’t regret it, I promise you.
