Day of the Dead #2 Zenescope

Day of the Dead #2 is entitled Grave Mistakes. Don’t you just love zombie humour? Not that zombies or any other dead critter is usually a problem for Mary Medina because she can control the dead.

So, in Day of the Dead #2, fresh out of Arcane Acre, Mary heads to New Orleans at Mardi Gras to confront an age-old cult called the Order of the Tarot who are kidnapping and sacrificing young women.

The Order of the Tarot want Mary for deeply disturbing reasons of their own, but their party invite skills could use a little work to say the least. Ambushed by a sword-wielding assassin in a spooky old graveyard, Mary finds her powers deserting her, but, before she can end up as shish-kebab, a mysterious stranger steps in to save the day, displaying some impressive powers of his own to boot.

Mary repays him by … well, I won’t spoil it but let’s just say the gratitude aspect of his reward was a little lacking! Day of the Dead #2 is chock full of that voodoo that they do so well, plus we got gators, swamps, people in creepy masks and a guy in a John McClane vest with the coolest tats you’ve ever seen.

For Day of the Dead #2, Allan Otero’s artwork is ghoulishly glossy and Dawn P. Marquez’ script is marvellously macabre. Day of the Dead #2 is part of a six issue story arc so the action is just heating up. All in all, it’s enough to make a revenant smile.
