Planet of the Apes Green Lantern #3
Boom Studios & DC Comics

Holy Banana Skins, Batman!

This has got to be the wackiest team-up ever! In Planet of the Apes/Green Lantern #3 (of 6) we have Green Lanterns, Red Lanterns, Yellow Lanterns, a whole rainbow of ring warriors and all of them on the Planet of the Apes where a ringless Sinestro is trying to get his power ring back and a similarly unencumbered Hal Jordan is trying to stop him.

Enter the cavalry in Planet of the Apes/Green Lantern #3, led by my all-time favourite Green Lantern (aside from Alan Scott that is – in my book the original is always the best) Guy Gardner who has brought super-gorilla Grodd along for the ride. It’s always good to see Grodd in action, but aside from his presence, the Planet of the Apes could be any planet in any cosmos and the locale seems kinda shoe-horned in but who am I to knock a great marketing opportunity.

As to what happens in Planet of the Apes/Green Lantern #3 (of 6), well, Sinestro is his sadistic self, coercing information from Doctor Zaius, Hal Jordan does his best Charlton Heston impression pretending to be a human slave, Guy Gardner is snarky, Grodd gets upset at being called a monkey and there’s a pitched battle between Lanterns and Apes.

The whole thing of Planet of the Apes/Green Lantern #3 is a totally bonkers and deliciously fan-centred frivolity. Someone deserves an award just for suggesting it.
