The Magdalena #4 Image/Top Cow

Right from the demon dominatrix cover, you know that The Magdalena #4 is going to be interesting. Weyer Blackwood comes from a family of sorcerers and he’s accidentally unleashed the demon Marchosias, who isn’t the least bit grateful, having his own agenda, which includes, but is not limited to, triggering the Book of Revelations.

The Magdalena, are a sisterhood with a shared bloodline. The current incumbent is apparently called Patience, which may or may not be a virtue, and seems to be a Bible quoting, talking to God type of holy warrior who has mentored nineteen-year-old, Maya Dos Santos to take on her holy mantle, but as Maya isn’t quite up to snuff, Mama Magdalena has to stick around for a bit longer.

There, I think that about sums up The Magdalena #4, a pretty much by the book coming of age sorcery tale but with a Holy Bible patina that gives it a certain frisson. Maya is a likeable rebellious teen character who you know is going to come good in the end, there is a knowing wit to the dialogue and Patience is your usual, uptight, moralistic older mentor.

This mix of the familiar in Magdalena #4, with a slightly skewed approach makes for an intriguing mix, particularly with Weyer Blackwood acting as both potential love interest and/or next big bad villain on campus. Certainly, one worth looking out for.
