Redlands #3

Redlands #3 is one heck of a mixed up puppy, which also features one mixed up puppy whose idea of a midnight snack is enough to make any red blooded man’s toes curl, I kid you not.

Redlands #3 starts off like any other M for mature rated bounty hunter themed comic book with swearing, graphic sex on the hood of a car and unnecessary violence. Then it gets weird.

Redlands #3 comes complete with detailed instructions on how to skin a deer, and a use for a bow line knot that no-one ever told me about when I was a boy scout! The hero, if that’s the right word, of Redlands #3 is Laurent, the big, bad bounty hunter in question.

The plot of Redlands #3 seems to revolve around something called Feast Day and is a steaming slice of backwoods noir that has a local legend called Gator Man, naked midnight boat rides, more sex on the hood of a car – could be a fetish theme here, but I’m too afraid to ask – and a possible serial killer called Redbrandt.

Nothing makes a whole lot of sense but maybe that’s the price you pay for being a latecomer. Stylish and atmospheric, Redlands #3 goes straight for the jugular in more ways than one and is not for the squeamish or easily offended but if you can stick with it to the end of the line it will repay your devotion in spades.
