John Carpenter’s futuristic cult classic Escape from New York debuted in 1981, starring Kurt Russell as maximum-security prisoner Snake Plissken recruited to rescue the kidnapped President of the United States.

So, who would have thought more than thirty years later we would still be thrilling to a comic book version of the tough as nails, spit bullets, one-eyed ex-con? All the hallmarks of the original film are still there. Snappy one-liners, muscular action scenes and fast paced, hard driving action as Snake’s Siberian adventure comes to a close in this issue.

Along with Russian sidekick, Bulgarov, Snake has to put an end to a comet worshiping cult who believe a space rock will foretell the end of the world. Snake Plissken does it all in typically brutal Plissken fashion but not before his smoking almost gets him a long walk off a short pier, figuratively speaking! And if the bad guys didn’t kill Snake Plissken, his own side just might.

If adventure is your thing, you won’t find better than this.
