What a treat this is! Incredible artwork accompanies a storyline without dialogue, dragging the reader kicking and screaming into a nightmare dystopian world. In just twenty-six pages writer Jonathan Hickman and artist Nick Dragotta produce a mini-masterpiece of a comic book.

Image Comics launched East of West in 2013 and brought together two incredibly talented individuals in Hickman and Dragotta who previously worked together on Marvel’s Fantastic Four.

East of West #22 is a Sci-Fi/Western drama is set in a dystopian United States racing towards the Apocalypse. The Four Horsemen are cast as the heroes and the Civil War never ended. Whilst that concept might seem a little hard to swallow the way the writer and artist have worked together to create this nightmare world is astonishing.

East of West #22 was like being thrown into the middle of the action from a violent collaboration between Ridley Scott and Quentin Tarantino. Blade Runner meets Kill Bill without the laughs… The lack of dialogue heightens the tension and the artwork conveys the story without the need for words.

If you haven’t experienced East of West before I strongly recommend that you catch up with the four collected volumes that have been published since 2013. I guarantee that you will not be disappointed!
