Power Man and Iron Fist #1 Marvel Comics
Power Man and Iron Fist #1 Marvel Comics

In Power Man and Iron Fist #1 the boys are back in town! Or are they? Luke Cage and Danny Rand, who talks so much he’s like the Peter Parker of kung fu, have a bro-day, but it’s just supposed to be a one-time thing. Their mission: to pick up the Heroes for Hire former office manager Jennie Royce from prison where she served five years for murdering her boyfriend Crime-Buster.

In Power Man and Iron Fist #1, Jennie needs a favour: for the boys to retrieve a necklace in the possession of bad guy Tombstone/Lonnie Lincoln. However, this simple errand quickly turns complicated.

The best Luke Cage writers have fun with his dialogue, and David Walker is no exception. Luke is trying to forgo swearing, and Danny can’t help but mock the former Power Man’s use of expletives like “fiddle faddle” and “This guy is a bad knick-knack-paddy-whack.” And who can blame Danny for that?

For Power Man and Iron Fist #1, Sanford Greene’s art is stylish and almost comical, which fits the mood of Power Man and Iron Fist #1. Colourist Lee Loughridge makes some interesting colour choices and this rich palette is much appreciated.

Power Man and Iron Fist #1 seems to exist because the heroes will soon be teaming up on Netflix. Still, even if it’s just ultimately a marketing and merchandising tool, the comic is entertaining in its own right and worth your time.
