Swamp Thing #2 DC
Swamp Thing #2
DC

It’s round two of Swamp Thing versus super zombie Lazlo Wormwood. In Swamp Thing #2 the plant-man is irritable and is never disappointed by the ignorance and depravity of people. He’s frustrated and even threatens Shade the Changing Man, to whom he goes for help. How to Win Friends and Influence People, is not on Wormwood’s agenda.

The fight’s resolution although simple in Swamp Thing #2 is accomplished with style and meaning and skirts the boredom threshold with ease. The zombie Lazlo mirrors Swamp Thing in his unyielding anger and frustration. “Why won’t you let me do what I must?” he begs of the hero.

Artist Kelley Jones twists Swamp Thing’s body into the most wonderful shapes and contortions, and has brought an original approach to the character. His hypnotic art style is like a cross between Richard Corbin and the Hernandez brothers.

And for you Swamp Thing and Vertigo fans, you won’t want to miss the shocking appearance on the last page.

In look and story, Swamp Thing is like a Vertigo title rendered in a Bronze Age style, and it reminds us why that era was so great (and it was, Ed).
