Power Man and Iron Fist #6 Marvel Comics
Power Man and Iron Fist #6 Marvel Comics

In Power Man and Iron Fist #6, Marvel’s Civil War II gets personal for Luke Cake and Danny Rand when they learn about the deaths of former comrades. But Power Man and Iron Fist #6 handles the tragedies with a deft touch and even a bit of humour, eliciting an emotional response from the reader. The pair have bad memories of the last Civil War and must choose sides. Or will their choices be made for them?

Meanwhile in Power Man and Iron Fist #6 a group of powerful vigilantes called Preemptive Strike have gone all Minority Report on ex-villains they believe will commit future crimes. A group of concerned criminals, ex-crooks and their kin hire Luke and Danny, just as their pursuers catch up their prey. The resulting fiddle-faddle finds Iron Fist arrested (“Man, never call the cops!” advises Cockroach).

Writer David Walker’s dialogue in Power Man and Iron Fist #6, between the two heroes, feels natural and real, on a par with the great Brian Michael Bendis. Flaviano’s art is stylish and expressive, even if he is allergic to backgrounds. The fight scenes are fluid and well-choreographed. Colourist John Rauch bathes everything in pastels, for an interesting effect.

Power Man and Iron Fist #6 Is a fresh take on the Marvel cross-over event and reminds us why we look forward to every issue of this series. Long may it last.
