The Girl Friday’s Girl Friday, pre-dating even her namesake Lois, Margo Lane was the role model for all the girlfriends/sidekicks/trusted assistants that surfaced in her wake. Smart, sexy, sassy and a dab hand with a revolver, she has been The Shadow’s constant companion since the 1930’s. So are we really going to believe that this series sees her demise? Or is The Shadow: The Death Of Margo Lane #2 just another comic book come-on that fails to deliver on its promise?

Well, it isn’t over until the BBW sings as they probably say these days, but things aren’t looking good as the intrepid Margo throws herself into the jaws of death to save The Shadow who has been snared by the Hip Sing Tong under the orders of the Red Empress.

Fortunately, Matt Wagner knows how to push all the right buttons and his knowledge of The Shadow’s history is unsurpassed.  Wagner’s artwork and story capture the era perfectly. The action in The Shadow: The Death Of Margo Lane #2 is full-on, guns blazing, TNT packed fireworks from start to finish. If there is a better visualised, better-structured comic book out there I’ve yet to see it.

Will Margo Lane survive? At this point, not even The Shadow knows.
