New art history biography graphic novel series from Bluewater this fall

When one thinks of comic books and art, one immediately conjures up images of Jack Kirby, Jim Lee, Frank Miller and a host of modern day masters of the medium. However it wasn’t too long ago when the art world was dominated by the likes of Picasso, and Van Gogh. A new partnership between comic-book publisher and German artist Willi Bloess look to fuse the two worlds with a series of biography comics featuring the lives and legacies of some of Western Civilizations most influential artists.

Starting in the fall, Bluewater will publish the Bloess-produced graphic novels which will include “homage biographies” for such luminary artists as Salvador Dali, Pablo Picasso, Frida Kahlo, Vincent Van Gogh, Keith Haring and Andy Warhol. The series is titled “The Milestones of Art.”

“What makes these truly stand out is that the artist’s life story is told in the style of that artist. Bloess has meticulously researched and painstakingly emulated the style of each artist featured. These books are gorgeous,” said Bluewater president Darren Davis.

Bluewater, which has made a significant impact with multiple biography comic titles, looks to expand the reach of its market by making these books available to traditional book stores, schools, libraries and museum shops.

“They are a perfect compliment as a collectible or as an introductory primer to the life, work, technique and enduring legacy of the artist,” Davis added.

Bloess, a renowned author and illustrator inGermanyproduced over 20 titles featuring influential artists of the last 125 years. He chose the first set to release in the United States.

“The field of illustrated books is still dominated by dragons, wizards and heavily-armed fighters,” Bloess noted. “Therefore I was very surprised when I learned that Bluewater were running illustrated biographies in theUSA. Unbelievable, a home of pure facts in the land of fiction. Reality strikes back!”

The following are the six 40-page edition to be released by Bluewater: “Salvador Dali: The Paranoia-Method,” “Vincent Van Gogh: The Chase of Ravens,” “Pablo Picasso: The King,” “Frida Kahlo: VivaMexico,” “Andy Warhol: The Factory,” and “Keith Haring: Next Stop Art.”
