HOW TO WRITE A GRAPHIC NOVEL
Saturday 7th September 2013
With the growing popularity and diversity of subject-matter, have you ever wanted to try your hand at writing a graphic novel script?
SelfMadeHero, the UK’s leading independent graphic novel publisher is hosting a one-day Guardian Masterclass which aims to introduce the history of the art-form and to offer practical advice on scripting a graphic novel, finding the right illustrator and getting your work published.
The event takes place on Saturday 7th September, 9.30am – 5pm, at the Royal Society of Medicine, 1 Wimpole St, London W1G OAE.
Talks include an introduction on British comics by the renowned graphic novel authority, Paul Gravett, author of 1001 Comics You Must Read Before You Die, and a keynote speech from artist and writer Audrey Niffenegger, author of The Time Traveller’s Wife, as well as numerous illustrated books and a graphic novel, The Night Bookmobile.
The practical classes are led by three of the industry’s leading practitioners: award-winning writer Pat Mills, “the godfather of British comics’”, co-creator of Dredd and many iconic 2000AD characters who has also written for Marvel and DC Comics in America; Karrie Fransman, frequent contributor to The Guardian and New Statesman and creator of The House That Groaned (published by Square Peg); and internationally acclaimed artist Andrzej Klimowski, Professor of Illustration at Royal College of Art, designer of posters and book covers as well as the author of graphic novel adaptations of The Master and Margarita and Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde (both for SelfMadeHero).
