Mark Waid Now a Comic Retailer

COMIC WRITER EXPANDS REACH TO NEW SIDE OF INDUSTRY

As announced on the Thrillbent blog, Eisner Award-winning comic writer Mark Waid is now a comic retailer.

Muncie, Indiana’s comic store, Alter Ego, has a new partner: Mark Waid.  Waid, along with his partner in life, Christy Blanch, and original owner Jason Pierce, have joined forces in this new retail operation.

Waid’s plans to log “inventory on Tuesdays and running the register on weekends and navigating the ordering process at our brand new location” should be plenty helpful for Waid’s previous comic “store of choice.”

Waid also announced the news on Twitter, stating: “I, sworn enemy of print, went and bought a comics shop. Can’t wait for my first Retailers’ Summit!”

“I have skin in the game, and I’m eager to see what there is to learn about the only side of the industry I’ve never involved myself with,” the comic writer also declared.

With both a scale-model replica of the Batcave and a full-sized Phantom Zone projector, Waid’s enthusiasm and effort in this adventure are hard to miss.  He’s further invited people to visit, even if they don’t buy anything, just to check the place out, so if you’re in the Northeastern Indiana area, stop by the store at 111 E. Adams Street in downtown Muncie.

Long a vocal proponent of digital comics, Waid hopes his attempts to make print and digital more successful by feeding off each other will prove true in his newest venture.
