Bloodstrike #1
Image Comics

Bloodstrike is back, and fans of the 1990s Image comic book team will appreciate the Generation X sensibilities. Although the rest of us Baby Boomers and Millennials may wonder what all the fuss is about. The story’s bloody and grotesque nature is a matter of, well, in the arm chewing scene, of taste.

On the good news scale Rob Liefeld gets points for trying to provide exposition while advancing the story at the same time. The bad news is it’s clumsy executed. Bloodstrike #1 opens with hero JT (imagine Deadpool but without the likability) explaining why he has been cut in half.

If you love Liefeld’s artwork or hate it, you have to admit Liefeld  has improved since the 1990s. Which is to the good of Bloodstrike #1, the action scenes hum right along at the rapid pace expected of them.

Overall Bloodstrike #1 is a mixed bag. If you’re not a Liefeld fan this comic won’t change your mind. But Liefeld followers will swoon.
