Set somewhere in 1950s South Florida, Gravedigger Part 1 ‘The Predators’. is a ‘noir web series’ turned into a comic book series following Lee Marvin, I mean Gravedigger McCrae, a man on the run from the mob after being framed for the murder of the mob boss’s daughter Eva.

Whilst deliberately utilising hard-boiled clichés, which could be very enjoyable, is no bad thing, in Gravedigger the hard-boiled attempts are sometimes cringe-inducing. I’d say it was half baked more than hard boiled, but would then be as corny as Gravediggers’ worst moments, so, erm, just forget I mentioned it ok? Anyway, Gravedigger shows a lot of love has gone into the creation of this whole series; Gravedigger will probably hit the spot for more people than not

Multi Eisner award-winning Rick Burchett’s artwork is spot on and the Florida setting has a broad appeal given our collective nostalgia for periods we never experienced first hand. So Burchett has done a lovely job, and it is clear he has used a few famous faces as reference.

If you are one of those people who like to tell others that you have a television because you think it makes them think you’re something of a thinker then you’ll probably like Gravedigger. For the rest of us Gravedigger Part 1 The Predators a bit of a curate’s egg and therefore sometimes hard-boiled and sometimes soft.
