Gotham has improved considerably by taking the focus off uninspiring villain Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith) and placing more emphasis on Oswald Cobblepot/Penguin (Robin Taylor). Sometimes it feels as if FOX should rename the whole shebang Penguin.

But anyway, moving on. Vowing to free his mother Gertrud Kapelput (Carol Kane) from the clutches of now-mayor Theo Galavan (James Frain) Penguin is ambushed.

A side story returns us to Edward Nigma (Cory Michael Smith), who accidentally murdered his girlfriend Kristin Kringle (Chelsea Spack) and Nigma’s split-off personality has hidden the body. The other sub-plot involves a love triangle among Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz), Selina Kyle (Camren Bicondova) and Galavan’s neice Silver St. Cloud. Turns out St. Cloud is a chip off the old block of evil, and Bruce is as dumb and naive as any hormonal tween.

On one hand, season two of Gotham is more interesting than season one, but on the other it leans too heavily on its avian antagonist. We keep watching not only to see what Penguin will do next, but hoping other exciting villains will appear at some point too.
