Batman Europa #2 continues to be one of the best Bat-books ever. Ostensibly a cop buddy picture in tone and style, this Batman-Joker team-up, journey is too interesting and fun to ignore. And this duo is nothing if not dynamic.
In Batman Europa #2 Batman and Joker are trying to catch the Trojan Horse, a dangerous computer hacker responsible for poisoning them both. But the duo are beset by a very cool horde of ancient wooden robots (and anything not only associated with the Golem of Prague but ancient Persia/Sumer too, gets beaucoup bonus points). Although desperate, Batman appreciates the situation: “If I have to die…I want it to be in a mystery,” he says.
Any Joker writer carries a heavy burden and Matteo Casali and Brian Azzarello handle the character with care. The Clown Prince of Crime is as crazy and funny as he should be, but also formidable: he saves Batman’s bacon from being burned to a crisp. The script is fast-paced and grips the attention.
And bravo to Giuseppe Camuncoli in Batman Europa #2, for the stunning painting-like artwork, completing the package and earning the slightly heavy price tag. But it is a price worth paying. The next issue of Batman Europa #2 can not come soon enough.
