Carnage #4 Marvel Comics
Carnage #4
Marvel Comics

Carnage #4 switches the mini-series’ gears yet again and becomes downright Lovecraftian. Traitorous Grey Ridge Mine director Barry Gleason lures Carnage/Cletus Cassidy under the caverns to a hooded cult right out of a dime novel. They want Cassidy to awaken elder god Cthon. Carnage wants in because he loves the crazy. Carnage is in full creepy mode here, and it’s glorious.

Meanwhile in Carnage #4, cave-in survivors Manuela Calderon, FBI Special Agent Claire Dixon, Eddie Brock/Toxin and Man-Wolf/John Jameson regroup to pursue Carnage. Brock is jonesing to bond with a symbiote and pesters Calderon until she releases it. They spend pages discussing it, but, thanks to Marvel Comics long time writer, Gerry Conway, the dialogue never gets boring.

Some might be disappointed by the lack of action in Carnage #4 but again, to his credit and experience, Conway manages to move the story briskly along and ends Carnage #4  on an exciting, must buy the next issue, note. Artist Mike Perkins delivers the goods as usual, and we hope both Perkins and Conway do more work together. In the meantime, bring on the Carnage.
