Supergirl Episode #10 – Childish Things takes a good premise, Toyman’s escape from prison and his surprise relationship to comic relief character Winn Schott (Jeremy Jordan), and wastes it. Plot holes abound, and the police, FBI and prison guards all suffer from the same stupidity and ineptitude which seems to permeate most DC television shows.
There are a couple of bright spots in Supergirl Season 1 Episode 10 – Childish Things though. J’Onn J’Onzz (David Harewood) is fascinating as a brooding super-alien. But besides Harewood it seems the only thing in the episode worth watching is Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart), who gets all the best dialogue. “As much as I love watching you millennials deny your feelings I pay you not to have them,” she tells Kara. It doesn’t matter, of course, because the show slips into melodrama at a moment’s notice.
It’s a shame because the Supergirl is equipped with good acting and acceptable production values. However, Supergirl Season 1 Episode 10 – Childish Things is dragged down by the writing. In that sense the episode’s title, ‘Childish Things’, is unfortunately apt.
