It’s hard to believe how much Agent Carter Season 2 Episode 4, Smoke and Mirrors packs into 42 minutes. Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) and Edwin Jarvis (James D’Arcy) kidnap hitman and Arena Social Club security chief Rufus Hunt to interrogate him. Peggy has an intense interaction with scientist Jason Wilkes (Reggie Austin) whose body is incorporeal, and with Agent Daniel Sousa (Enver Gjokaj).

There’s more. Super-genius prodigy Whitney Frost (Wynn Everett) is infected with zero matter and is experimenting with it. But every time she kills and absorbs something or someone a black gash in her head grows. Through flashbacks we see the emotional origins of Peggy and Whitney, née Agnes Cully. Both were exceptional in their own ways and both discouraged as children from fulfilling their destinies or bucking their genders.

The episode also addresses the conspiracy among the Arena Club, Isodyne Energy and the shadowy Council of Nine. That means we get to see more of War Department slime ball Vernon Masters (Kurtwood Smith) hissing vague threats about black lists.

Agent Carter Season 2 Episode 4 is hypnotic crack: from Atwell to the plot to the characters to the dialogue, you can’t look away. And when it’s over you want more. MORE DO YOU HEAR! MORE!
