Previously on Buffy The Vampire Slayer: Only Willow stands between Earth and an invading army of demons. If the Scoobies can’t find a way to close the portal Willow is struggling to keep from expanding, everything goes ka-boom! Now read on.
For Buffy The Vampire Slayer Season 10 #25, Giles now looks like Rupert Bear, Spike still talks in faux cockney, Dawn still agonises about not being a real person and Xander still has an eye-patch and spends most of his time feeling sorry for himself when he’s not being haunted by Anya the Vengeance Demon. There’s a new guy called Andrew on the team but other than that everything is comfortably reminiscent of the TV programme as Buffy and friends temporarily abandon their search for The Mistress and the Soul Glutton to save us all from demon interface.
In Buffy The Vampire Slayer Season 10 #25 I think it would be scarier if The Mistress and the Soul Glutton weren’t so darn blobby! Megan Levens’ cartoon style artwork may give us reasonable likenesses of the cast but takes the edge off any real horror elements. Maybe that’s intentional, but, entertaining as this is, it feels like it’s aimed at the younger portion of the audience. It raises a few smiles but no real chills.
