Power Man and Iron Fist #2 isn’t the bloody Hell’s Kitchen of Netflix. Bravo to writer David Walker and artist Sanford Greene for exaggerating the comedic aspects of Luke Cage/Power Man and Danny Rand/Iron Fist, making them more like Jack Cole’s classic Plastic Man than TV’s Daredevil.

In Power Man and Iron Fist #2 there’s a price on their heads after being tricked into stealing the Supersoul Stone, which Tombstone wants back. The whole issue Danny tries to get the band back together. “It’s because Jessica hates me, isn’t it? That’s why you don’t want to do this,” says Iron Fist. “She doesn’t hate you, man. I mean you annoy the fiddle-faddle out of her, but you do that with everyone,” says Luke, vowing not to curse.

Every bit of dialogue makes you smile or laugh. A pair of Tombstone’s henchmen watching Luke and Danny fight trade quips like Venture Brothers’ villains. “If we go after them now, we’ll get our asses kicked again,” says one. “True. And then the boss will kick our asses for getting our asses kicked again,” says his companion.

Sanford Greene’s cartoony style lends itself to the madness, and panels are whimsical on top of the dialogue.

With great art and writing, Power Man and Iron Fist #2 is a silly romp set loose on the printed/digital page to remind us life doesn’t have to be gritty or filmed in high contrast.

And that welcome change makes the next issue of Power Man and Iron Fist not so much a must as a necessity.
