Is this really the end of the line for Dancy Flammarion in Alabaster #5 of 5? Well, it’s the last chapter in this story arc but something tells me the quality of storytelling and a heart wrenching, cliff-hanger ending will ensure a rosy future for our albino heroine even if her current state seems pretty grim.

Captured by the sadistic Asquith sisters, Dancy, and her girlfriend Maisie learn about an ancient war between the Ghul and the Djinn. The psycho Asquith girls are after the Key of Shackles which was lost during that conflict and they went to the trouble of raising Dancy from the depths of Hell so she could retrieve it for them. Maybe if they said “please” it might help, but threatening to slice and dice Maisie isn’t a tactic that makes Dancy willing to consider their proposition.

All this in Alabaster #5 of 5 and a wisecracking sparrow who’s not afraid to talk trash to a whole posse of Hellhounds and you have a pitch-perfect piece of supernatural splendour.

Oh, and the cover of Alabaster #5 of 5 is awesome! Can’t wait for the next instalment.
