Don’t they say that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, expecting a different result? That’s sort of what happens The Shadow Glass Part 2 of 6, the second instalment of Ally Fell’s The Shadow Glass. Thomas Hughes once again seeks the help of Dr. John Dee in contacting the spiritual realm.

In The Shadow Glass Part 2 of 6, the two men first tried the same experiment twenty years ago with disastrous results, so, this time they enlist the aid of Master Talbot in the hopes that their combined skill can bring about a better result. The means of contacting the spiritual realm? Why, The Shadow Glass of course, a mysterious mirror of immense power that has the unnerving trait of staring back at you even as you stare into it. Rose knows nothing of the mirror as yet but intends to find out, whatever the risks to herself, even as she strives to unravel the secrets of her own birth and finally reunite with her real father.

The Shadow Glass Part 2 of 6 is potent, skilful storytelling and quality artwork from the multi-talented Ally Fell. A mix of sword and sorcery and historical fact, Ally Fell sets out a classic storyline and although you might want Rose to be taking a more direct part in the action, I’m betting the wait will be well worthwhile. If this doesn’t pick up an award or two there’s just no justice.
