And there came a day, unlike any other, when Earth’s mightiest heroes and heroines found themselves united against a common threat. Let their battle cry ring out: “Aven…” Oops! Sorry, wrong publisher. What I meant to say was: “It’s Morphin Time!”
Invoking the spirit of their totem creatures, Mastodon. Sabretooth Tiger Tyrannosaurus, Pterodactyl and Triceratops, (which somehow I always thought would be their codenames but they always seem to display a flagrant disregard for the secret identity code and call each other by their real names), five intrepid teens become lycra clad, motorbike helmet wearing robot dinosaur jockeys to defend the planet from the evil machinations of Rita Repulsa.
If you’re thinking you might save a few bucks and wait for the collected black and white re-print to come out, don’t bother because their costumes are so similar you would never be able to tell which was which, especially now we have a sixth Mighty Morphin team member Tommy aka Green Ranger. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #4 continues the story arc that has Tommy battling his conscience to decide if he is going to be a bona fide hero or give in to Rita’s mind control. It looks like he’s come to the honourable decision but you just know that Rita won’t give up that easily and something wicked their way comes via a nasty looking portal.
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers have come on in leaps and bounds thanks to Kyle Higgins and Hendry Prasetya and, although I could wish for a little more individuality in terms of costumes and personality, this is a slick and entertaining slice of teen superheroics.
