Subtitled ‘An American Family Under Siege’, Briggs Land #3 is Justified meets Sons of Anarchy for budding conspiracy theorists everywhere.

In Briggs Land #3 the Briggs family rule Briggs Land USA which is a bit like saying that Walt Disney owns Disneyland but this is definitely not the happiest place on earth. A family of antigovernment secessionists, their peaceful isolationism has turned to criminal activities in response to the rise of religious extremism and terrorism, though quite how that was a reasoned response to anything except a lust for power and money I’m not quite sure.

Anywho, in Briggs Land #3, Grace, the current family head, wants to go back to peaceful co-existence and self-containment, but she has a fight on her hands. The introductory flashback to 1985 demonstrates the kind of frontier justice that prevails in Briggs Land which kind of belies the notion that they were ever that peaceful to begin with and it may just be Grace who’s the one out of touch with her clan.

So in Briggs Land #3 when the Feds start poking their noses in, you know things are just going to get a whole lot worse before they get … well, a whole lot worse than that even. If you like homicidal hillbillies and grungy gangster schtick, you’ll be in hog heaven. Otherwise, wait for the TV series.
