Cannibal #2

The second chapter from New York Times bestselling writer Brian Buccellato & Jennifer Young… As the Hansen family reels from tragedy, Cash resorts to drastic measures in search of answers.

Cannibal #2 opens on a run-down gas station in a tiny town called Willow in south-east Florida. What first caught my attention was the interesting art style. It has a retro feel to it, which I love. The colours look washed out in some areas, but that only adds to the overall atmosphere. The attention to detail in each panel is captivating and makes you want to read on. They know when to use harsh lighting and when not to, with solid black shadows and silhouettes.

I really enjoyed the concept of Cannibal #2, there are no zombies in sight – it’s just cannibalistic humans. The panel layout is superb and leads your eye on to each scene with ease.

There was a page in Cannibal #2, that stood out to me, the art took up the entirety of the page with a gruesome scene of cannibalism – but it was also the fact that you didn’t see it take place – you just knew it was happening.

This is when the dialogue also stood out to me, it helped make the scene even more disturbing. The writing from Brian Buccellato and Jennifer Young can drag on for a while, but if you take the time – you will be absorbed by Cannibal #2.

It’s a must-buy if you appreciate the fact that you can make a gruesome story without the casual zombie wandering around like an overused cliché.
