His name is Ichabod and he is a killer. But his death – for die he must – is only the beginning of his story…
2000 AD are very proud to announce that the next US format mini-series from them will be THE GRIEVOUS JOURNEY OF ICHABOD AZRAEL (AND THE DEAD LEFT IN HIS WAKE) by Rob Williams, Dom Reardon, Michael Dowling, Peter Doherty, and Antonio Fuso.
The greatest killer of The Old West is murdered, and then vows to kill his way out of the afterlife and return to the living lands of colour. No one’s ever done it before. But no one’s ever been as mean a killer as Ichabod before.
The series caused a sensation amongst fans when it debuted in 2010. A bloody, romantic supernatural Western filtered through the language of Daniel Woodrell and the cinematic imagery of Terrence Malick – Ichabod Azrael is so much more than just another Western.
The six-issue mini-series from 2000 AD will begin on 25th February 2015 and will be available through comic book stores via Diamond Distribution (order code DEC141640) and digitally from 2000 AD’s DRM-free webshop and iPad app.
Written by Williams (The Royals: Masters of War) and drawn by Reardon (Caballistics), Dowling (Death Sentence), Doherty (Shaolin Cowboy), and Fuso (The Girl Who Played With Fire), with letters by Annie Parkhouse, the first issue cover is by Simon Davis (Sláine the Barbarian) with a variant by Lee Garbett (Loki: Agent of Asgard).
“We’re thrilled to bring the west’s greatest DEAD killer to the US market, that’s where he’s from, after all,” said Williams. “Movies like The Assassination of Jesse James and the songs of Gram Parsons and Townes Van Zandt were the strip’s inspiration. So it’s great he’s heading to his homeland, revolver in hand.”
“After the success of our US format comics this year – DREDD: Underbelly, Jaegir, and Brass Sun – we have plans to continue with more titles in the format in 2015, drawing on some of the most inventive, intriguing, and action-packed series 2000 AD has ever produced,” stated 2000 AD editor, Matt Smith. “The last few years have seen an incredible range of new characters emerge and we’re looking forward to blowing comic book readers’ minds!”
