It’s a psychological turning point in Murphy’s life in RoboCop #12 from Boom! This final issue goes out with a bang!

Against a war-torn OCP headquarters, with the fate of Detroit as backdrop, the ending begins with a showdown: the Old Man squared against Murphy. Thrown into the mix is Killian, the anarchist, who, although a desperate and violent killer, is more honest than the Old Man and in the end more righteous.

The dialogue in RoboCop #12 is worth reading. Williamson and Culver allow all the character’s voices to be heard. Lewis cusses like a longshoreman. RoboCop gets to wax poetic: “I’m just a machine doing my part inside a much bigger machine.”

Nahuelpan’s art is pleasingly designed, even if some of the faces look odd. However, there are interesting touches too. In Nahuelpan’s hands, RoboCop’s exposed lips look almost mechanical. The first action panel is both brutal and well drafted.

Ultimately, it’s a journey Murphy must take to understand he can’t change the world. RoboCop can only seem to play the role of the tin man on somebody else’s road.
