Book of Death #3 is the third volume in a four-part monthly series, which leaps into the future of the Valiant Universe characters. A pretty grim future it would appear to be too!

A young girl called Tama is the last in a line of mystics known as the Geomancers. She possesses a book predicting the fate of the Valiant heroes and an ensuing Dark Age for the world. In Book of Death #3, Tama’s guardian, The Eternal Warrior, needs her to read the book aloud as this opens a portal to his nemesis, The Corrupted One.

In Book of Death #3 all this is very well except The Corrupted One appears to have found his own Geomancer to control and channel his will through. Things don’t look very promising for our heroes as this is the first time in recorded history two geomancers have existed at the same time.

Speaking as someone who is not familiar with the Valiant Universe, I thoroughly enjoyed Book of Death #3; expertly scripted by Robert Venditti, who allows the reader into the story without having a deep understanding of the Valiant Universe. The artwork by Robert Gill and Doug Braithwaite is crisp and at times striking.

Book of Death #3 may not be the greatest of places to start for a Valiant novice, but there are less in barriers to an enjoyable experience in the story than you might think.
