Aly Fell is a new name to me but it turns out he’s one of UK’s own; based in Manchester, a concept artist, illustrator, and animator with more than 20 years experience who has worked on Count Duckula and Dangermouse and a right talented son of a gun he is too!

The Shadow Glass is set in England in the sixteenth century and fuses real life historical characters such as Dr. John Dee, the realm’s premiere occultist and advisor to Queen Elizabeth I, with the story of Rose, a young student of the occult who discovers her father may be in league with the devil. When Thomas Hughes arrives from America with the Shadow Glass itself, an object of immense supernatural power, and seeks the help of Dr. Dee, it sets in motion a series of events that will come to fruition twenty years later as Rose learns that the man she has always known as her father is dying. Dark family secrets are uncovered as Rose sets out to fulfill her dark and dangerous destiny.

The Shadow Glass is chock full of period detail and superbly rendered artwork. As this is the initial issue its primary function is to set up the story for what is to follow and it does that with skill and panache. Whatever Rose’s fate turns out to be it promises to be a unique and thrilling ride you will not want to miss.
