In a style attempting to look as if it’s been ripped from tomorrow’s headlines this is a take on the military that is a million miles away from Sgt. Fury and His Howling Commandoes but would benefit with some of the aforementioned title’s character definition.
The bad guys in Burning Fields #6 are called Carapace; there is a rescue mission going on but the characters, both from a visual and personality point of view, are bland and interchangeable enough for you to not give two hoots about their success or failure.
To grab whatever bit of your attention remains on Burning Fields #6, there are some weird zombies like critters wandering around which lifts the narrative out of the standard war is hell niche but into the zombie overload niche. So, if you’re coming in this close to the end of Burning Fields you are unlikely to have a clue who or what they are. Either read all the back issues or go AWOL soldier!
