What would you do to protect your world? Would you sacrifice your children to become unthinking, unfeeling war constructs called Shrikes? That’s the question posed in The Hymn of Ordeal No.23, the opening gambit of Creepy #24. Hosted by Uncle Creepy, this is the expected mix and match collection of humour and gruesomeness.

In Creepy #24 Brother Creepy finds a kindred spirit, we meet the Jikinink, cannibalistic demons spawned from the souls of the greedy, we hear about Charles Byrne, the world’s tallest man in 18th century England and a fearful little warning about the perils of being buried alive, but for my money, the choice pick from this chocolate box of terror is Coherer, a tale of father/son bonding from beyond the grave that gives a sleazy couple their well-deserved comeuppance.

The cover blurb on Creepy #24 calls it: ‘The Finest In Illustrated Horror!’ and although that may well be true it treads a well-worn path which some may find a touch traditional, but if short, sharp shocks are your thing, you couldn’t do better than begin with Creepy #24.
