Grimm Fairy Tales Tarot 5 Zenescope

Grimm Fairy Tales: Tarot #5 begins in the Land of Oz, but if you’re expecting a wonderful wizard to put in an appearance, you may as well forget it. Dark magic and witchcraft are the order of the day in this particular fairyland, as the guy tied to the slab can attest to.

Meanwhile, in New York, the secret base of the Order of Light is under attack. Shimmer, she of the gravity defying, peek-a-boo outfit that is most definitely not suited to hand to hand combat with people brandishing pointy things, Natalia, Jericho and Talisman are in skin of their teeth survival mode as their numbers are all but wiped out. Put it this way, if this was Star Trek, they would all be wearing red tunics and have ‘Cannon Fodder’ stamped on their forehead. But, with the extraneous pawns removed from the board, it clears the way for the main players to stage a plucky assault on the Emperor’s Palace and a final confrontation with the Order of the Tarot.

As the penultimate episode in this particular story arc, Grimm Fairy Tales: Tarot #5  ratchets up the action and stacks the odds against the Order of Light in traditional ‘last stand at the Alamo’ style. Will Talisman and co. follow Davy Crocket and Jim Bowie into courageous defeat? Will Talisman switch sides once more, because that sure as heck seems to be where the bread is thickly buttered?

And is it magic or superglue that’s keeping Shimmer’s outfit from falling off? All these questions and more will be answered in the next issue, but for now, Grimm Fairy Tales: Tarot #5 in the capable hands of Joe Brusha and Renato Rey ensures you will want a ringside seat for the conclusion of one of the most finely crafted sagas available in comics today.
