FOR FOUR years beginning in 2013, Joe Harris wrote The X-Files for IDW. Come this December, he’s returning to the Chris Carter property to restore FBI Special Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully to comics.
“The X-Files only gets more relevant as the years go by and the government gets weirder and weirder, the UFOs become mainstream, and the trust in institutions, from the government on down, gets harder and harder to spare,” said the writer. Harris – who wrote more than 60 issues during his tenure on the IDW title – is joined on the Dynamite Comics project by R.D. Brown, an artist whose recent credits include covers for the first issues of Youngblood and Terminal for Image.
As is standard across much of the industry these days, Dynamite’s releases tend to come with a plethora of covers. It’s no different with the first issue of The X-Files, which features a photo cover as standard and 19 variants based primarily around the work of four different artists (one is a virgin or blank cover).
Two of those contributing have strong associations with the Topps’ X-Files title, which ran between 1995 and 1998. The Walking Dead‘s Charlie Adlard drew the first 16 issues of the Topps’ series, while Miran Kim produced all but one of the covers to #1-41. His Dynamite “icon” cover (which represents his mixed-media art for Topps’ first issue) is also being offered signed by Harris for $49.99 and in a 1:10 foil version for $11.99, which is also available as a $29.99 virgin foil option. Adlard’s variant variants are a 1:10 foil and a 1:25 virgin foil.
Clayton Crain and Ivan Tao are the others producing covers for the inaugural issue, which picks up after the 2018 finale of Season 11 of the TV show. Crain’s is available as a $100.00 metal variant and as a 1:15 foil variant and a 1:30 virgin foil edition (both priced at $11.99). Both Tao’s 1:10 foil and 1.40 virgin foil cost $4.99.
There is a also a blind bag variant. Priced at $19.99, it contains three randomly selected limited edition variants.
The X-Files #1 ships on December 9, priced $4.99.
